Week 1	Introduction to reading musical notation on the guitar, with a focus on reading rhythmic notation. Check this website for a pretty cool interactive tutorial on reading music on the guitar.
Week 2	New materials regarding Seventh Chords (ie tetrachords). Started working on the pop standard "Autumn Leaves" to learn our seventh chords.
Week 3	Looked at " Day Tripper" from "The Beatles Fakebook" to utilize our new sightreading skills. Finished the seventh chord discussion and played thorugh Autumn Leaves.
Week 4	Started discussing the seven modes of the major scale. Handed out these three songs as examples: Man on the Moon (REM) - Lydian Mode Eleanor Rigby (Beatles) - Dorian Mode White Rabbit (Grace Slick) - Phrygian Mode Check out these websites for discussions on the modes as they relate to the guitar. Guitarnoise.com Cyberfret.com (great website, if you can tune out the advertising) Handed out a new scale practice packet to help streamline your scale practicing. Handed out these fiddle tunes to assist in our sight reading and to help learn the modes.
Week 5	Continued our discussion on the modes of the major scale. If you are still confused, check this online tutorial for help. Tried round 2 of the "Jazz Chord Challenge" by handing out the "Girl From Ipanema" by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Look at pages 4 and 5 of the scale packet for next week.
Week 6	Played through "Girl from Ipanema". Looked at the fiddle tunes (see week three) to develop our reading and sense of the modes.
Week 7	The wonderful world of Harmonic Minor. Two song examples: Hava Nagila Nature Boy
